At Modern Glass we make traditional leaded lights as well as high quality reproductions.
Traditional leaded lights are made by hand-cutting glass sections, and fitting together with’H’ shaped lead cane and solder, then fixing with a lead cement to make the panel stronger. This method has been used for hundreds of years to create stunning panels that will last a lifetime, and often much much longer. We use these traditional methods to create the most stunning windows for your home or business.
New designs, copies of old designs, restoring and repairing, we love them all. We are happy to discuss what sort of designs will suit the period of your home/business, tastes and budget.
Traditional leaded lights are not cheap, but the colours and textures of the individual glass sections are amazing, and cannot be completely replicated using reproduction methods, though we do our best if this is too expensive an option. To read more about replica designs please click this link.
When creating leaded lights we can use sections of stained glass, use fused glass and bevelled shapes, to create unique and beautiful leaded lights.
We have a large stock of old and antique glass, as well the large range available now.
Leaded light panels were all traditionally single glazed, but they can be encapsulated inside a double glazed unit, which can be made of safety glass if required. (A rebate of at least 24mm needed).
