Brief
A local family commissioned us to design and make new leaded lights for a door and toplight in a former Police house in Bagnall. The client was keen to incorporate the former life of the property in the design.
Studio visit and discussion.
This commission was for customers who were renovating an old police house into a family home. They called in to our studio with ideas for police themed glass for their door, and some other glass for their property. After showing them plenty of samples and our different methods, they decided upon traditional leaded lights with a modern abstract style design, similar to an Star Trek sample Sam has done but police themed! So we got stuck in to doing some sketches and designs.
Finalising the design and colours.
After a few tweaks with the colour and the best positioning for the lettering, the design is done. The clients called back in t the studio and we got loads of glass out to start choosing. With our help and advice some lovley shades of blue and a pale purple were chosen, along with some fabulous clear textured glass to make the most of the police badge part of the deign.
Cutting the glass and putting together.
Sam cut some the glass and we emailed photos for the clients approval, and then got started on cutting the rest. The blue flashed glass for the lettering was templated and then sandblasted, and fired in the kiln. After a spectacular air bubble tragedy this part was then done again!
Ta Daaa.
After the messy hard labour part of the job, (putting it all together with lead and solder and lead cement), this is the finished door leaded light. Gorgeous. The customers were very pleased, as are we.
